Welcome

Welcome

Why this scrapbook … and why perhaps come in, and look around

PLEASE NOTE:

This online scrapbook is still (July 2025) evolving, still a draft for consultation and feedback, not a finished product. After further reflection, and in the light of comments , suggestions and contributions from others, it will in due course, hopefully, be expanded during 2026 and further tidied.

This scrapbook … and why come in, and look round

You will find in this scrapbook:

  • Various episodes, issues and topics in the working life of one person during the last 65 years, 1960-2025
  • Acknowledgements and tributes to colleagues, comrades, managers and mentors who lived and worked through some or all of the same 65 years
  • Memories and words of caution that may be helpful in the future for researchers and practitioners, trainers and lecturers, advocates and managers

Topics

As indicated across the top of this page, and on the scrapbook’s home page, the principal topics are grouped under six main headings: WORLD, SCHOOL, STORY, RACE, LAW, FAITH

Like a garden

Composing and curating an online scrapbook such as this has similarities with tending a garden. In both kinds of work and activity there are:

  • Satisfactions, but also misses and mistakes, alarms and anxieties, faults and disappointments
  • A mix of genres, shapes, shades, shadows, textures and colours, openings and invitations, hiding and resting places, quiet corners
  • The play and interplay of chance and coincidence, moments and memories, moods and seasons
  • A sense that everything everywhere is still unfinished
